I was watching a Youtube video, and I began to wonder:

Are there any individual names that the various ship classes in-game are given?

For example: In the Patrol Missions, when you load up an LFN Destroyer Patrol, the name "Huntsman" is shown. Does this mean then, that the LFN Destroyer, in the Patrol Missions, is HMS Huntsman?

I think the answer is its a mix of fact & fantasy. The German subs and LFN corvette classes (possibly US DD too) are certainly fact based; the rest I think are mainly fiction (it is an alternate reality, and designs changed because the outcome of WWI was different).

The patch which showed ship names in game I think came quite late on, maybe as late as gold. I don't remember much community discussion on the naming of ships (back then there was quite a bit of discussion on the "cosmetic" aspects of the game; I was quite vociferous about some topics, most notably the LFN ranks which were horribly screwed up for a long time).
