OK - just bought rising tide.  Loaded up fine but can't read any of the writing re missions etc.  Makes it imposible to play.  Any ideas?  Everything on the preferences screen is just gibberish - as it is on the rest of the game.  And yet checked out the jpegs on the rising tide website and they were clear as day.  What is going on?  As concerns my system, pentium 4, all singing and all dancing.  HELP.
Hi,
If you're only seeing gibberish, I suspect a mis-install.  A couple files for you to check, in C:\Program Files\GMX Media\Enigma Rising Tide (or where you installed the game):

localization.txt....62,387 bytes

fonts.ezv............426,142 bytes

singlePlayer.ezv..296,494

You might want to try installing from the CD again.

Raf
thanks for the advice - the things u mentioned seemed not to have loaded correctly - reading 400+kb rather than 400,000+kb.  I tried reloading the cd several times but always with the same result - getting nto the preferences page or the game page with the mission instructions and the font is illegible - as are some of the instruments.  No idea what I'm doing wrong!  Any more suggestions?
many thanks!

Matt
@Cowboy
Do you use Windows starndard font (in windows)

not some other or extra large or extra small?

What is your game resolution set to?

could you post a screenshot ?

Hi, I have the same problem and have contacted the chaps at Tesseraction. They told me it was my video card and to turn of anti-aliasing...Maybe you should do the same. I, unfortunately, cant turn off anti-aliasing (or I cant find how to) So give it a try. Alternately if you find another way in which to get the text readable please let me know and email me on sane-scotty@ntlworld.com

As a last. In desperation what i do now to play tjhe game is load a mission then quit it straight away, minimise the game then explore the enigma folder, go into my profile and read the mission logs. The logs let you know what you are supposed to do in the mission and aslo log all the messages that u get whilst in game. So at least you know what the mission is all about and what the outcome was. Its a roundabout way of doing it but until i find a way to read the in game text, its the best i can do...hope it helps.

Scotty

From my experience with OFP, blurry text and objects is a result of a sub-par mipmap setting.

You graphic adapter's mipmap level of detail should be set to the best image quality possible.

Does that help?

I think your videocard is below the minimum spec. you need atleast a GF2 w/32MB RAM or ATi Radeon w/32MB RAM

S3's engine is to my knowledge based on ATi's Rage Chipset

Trouble here also with the illegible fonts! AND I also have the S3 Graphics Pro Savage DDR video card. HMMMMM! The game functions fine as I can blindly attack and manuever by looking at the manual as to what functions are where because nothing in small fonts is legible. My S3 pro Savage video is 32MB and should be adequate as it is Direct X 8.1 which I even upgraded to 9.0 without any difference. I know how to turn on and off anti-aliasing but that does no good either. If anyone else out there has corrected this problem,...PLEASE HELP ME!

The amount of video ram is only part of the issue. The problem with that generation of video card is their lack of ability to support native directX compressed textures and the type of alpha blending we are doing in the game. The S3 chipset is too old. You need a Radeon or GeForce 2 level card.

My problem with the illegible instructions and fonts in Enigma R.T. is apparentlty not correctible since I have a notebook computer that has a built-in video card which is part of the motherboard. Oh that is such a drag that I am unable to play this game. Does anyone know if there is any hope that there is some upgradeable driver or improvement which can be downloaded? I just hate to give up on this game!

I would love to send in a DXDiag only if I knew how! I am not a real computer expert but have a pretty good handle on this notebook I bought just a couple months ago. If you could please point me in the right direction as to what is required to access and send a DXDiag it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brant
