Changed My Soundcard, Now My Crew Is Deaf! (gigex)

Well actually, the mic test times out now.
My Soundblaster Audigy went below crush depth last week, and I replaced it with a Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 Gamer sound card. Mic checks out in other things, such as BattleCom voice chat program, but times out in E:RT. Ran DxDiag and set sound to basic, mic still times out. Any suggestions? I can't be leet without my vox commands!
Re-installed the SAPI, and now at least the mic is recognized. However, not having much luck getting it to respond to most commands.

Seems that my new mic is defective. Back to the store...

Tried again with new mic, no love. I'll fiddle with the controls for my new sound card and see what happens.
I think I might know why....
Start->settings->control panel->speech->audio input->
what is choosen ?
A: Andrea ?
B: SB Audigy ?
C: Hercules ?
D: Windows Wave ?
E: Other ?
Im sure you know which wave device to use
