Practice for ALL BSS / TOW squad members was held on Sunday, June 24, 2007. In attendance for the US squad
Tbar, Joker, Strife, & Talon. In attendance for the Euro Squad was Emrys.
We practiced general 2 on 2 combat in a private room and then went in to teams. ( I am unsure how things went throughout the entire teams play as I lost my internet connection and was unable to log back on until yesterday evening.)
All in all the 2 vs 2 combat was pretty good. At the start, I was pretty loose and was getting shot up a lot by Tbar. I was getting a little frustrated with myself and my stupid maneuvering. I have this funny ablitity to pull up in front of my enemy and give them and easy shot. If I can get on someones six I can usually out fly my opponent and get the kill. I think that we need more practice flying 2 vs 2 and 2 v 1.
Flying with your wingman should be a priority in order to make a complete team. We must learn how our wingman flies and he must learn how you fly. When you get into a 2 vs 2 and you are shot down then your wingman must know automatically what he needs to do to get back to you, or to get you back in the fight as soon as possible even if it means running to avoid combat with the enemy.
I noticed that when we started the SNL with FD last Saturday that we took and early lead in the match but quickly gave it up. There was hardly any communication between our pilots. No one that I saw was flying with a wingman, and I think that this was the failure of our squad. We must practice more and fly as wings. We also need more pilots, so recruit, recruit recruit.! We must also come up with a game plan and stick to it. The go right at'em approach doesn't seem to work very well even when we are flying the Zoom and Boomer planes, and myself personally I'm a little tired of it, as I seem to always be at the front of the pack and the first one or two shot down. Think of it as a number game. If its 6 vs 6, and you take just one of the enemy pilots out of the game, you decrease that teams firepower by 16.6% if two go down thats 33%. You have to remember that these pilots do come back into the game. Stay with your wingman at all times. If you are the lead pilot and you are attacking someone let your wingman know BEFORE you make the attack. Your wingman's job is to be your eyes and ears while you are attacking and to keep others off your six while you complete your attack. If you go into and attack and don't inform your wingman before attacking, he just may be checking the views and when he comes back your long gone chasing someone by yourself. Next thing you know you've got your wingman trying to catch up to you trying to get the bandit of your tail and you're 6000 ft away. Can you say flaming anus!
