Is my understnding correct in saying that the 4 K (500, 1, 8, etc.) ring in B-Tac means my sub is that distance away? Many times when I say 'engage' merely to measure distance, it is often at odds with the B-Tac rings. I also have a problem with configuring torpedo range based on the notion of the rings respresenting encremental measurements. IOW, I'm totally clueless in using the measure of distance and how it relates to sub operations (ie, weapon firing, speed). I get the method, but my calculations seem out in left field. Could someone please enlighten me?

Also, concerning the running of torps using the time clocks, I've read the manual but don't quite get how we

determine the run time before impact. Help Please?

Uh uh huh lots of questions there swell, I don't remember the answer to most of these.

The 250/500/1k/->4k->8k rings are merely to give you an estimate of the distance, you'll get the exact range with the "engage" command as you said yourself

I never used any other speed of torpedoes than max speed, its a game not a math exam test *hehe*

Jes, surely you jest! Firstly, I would've thought you above anyone else would make full use of E:RT's unique features. Other than kick-ass graphics, the various ways in which the interface mimics actual uboot mechanics is one of the outstanding features of this sim. The various ways in which to set deph, gyros, speed, etc. [And in every sub movie made there is the scene with the sailor with the stop watch in hand counting off seconds 'till topedo impact (E:RT's time clock metioned above)]. I mean if you just want to point-and-shoot, you may as well play Steel Tide! :?

(My problem is in figuring out how they work. Image )

And I somewhat perplexed that you say so meticulos a sim uses the radar rings as an aproximation, an estimate! That the first ring in 8 k meters is in actuality 2340 meters (acording to my measurements) leaves me scratching my noodle! 😵

Is it possible to quiz East on this? :!?:

Well , "Steel Tide" was fun for about an hour or so, E:RT was fun for years, most of the times I played I really just did shoot to kill, I am not very patient sometimes, especially not when it comes to PC games, unless the genre requires it (RTS games (My favorites)).

The fact that I haven't played it for at least 2 years now has made me forget a lot of the basic and advanced features of the game, but as I recall it the 8k ring isn't only 2340 meters away from the sub ??

When I played I usually sunk ships at the 2k ring and my scoresheets would say the target has been annihilated at around 1800-2200m.

Each time I started a mission I would always switch to the "torpedo room" and set the speed to max, and depth to 1m, to ensure a perfect kill with each and all fired fishes.

You can probably still reach East via PM/Email :)
