my own math: (assuming it uses the same speed as Earth)

Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun at a distance of about 150 million kilometers (93.2 million miles). It takes 365,256 days for the Earth to travel around the sun

The 10th planet is 9.000.000.000 miles away / 93.200.000 = 96,57 times more distant than from the sun than Earth

96,57 * 365,256 days = 35.272 days

35.272 days / 12 months = 2.939,29 years to travel around it the sun

Since they know that it is allready in orbit around the sun, it cant be a "new" discovery.

Disclaimers note & some additional information:

• I'm not sure what point of its orbit its in could be coming or going.
• The Calc is based upon if it was on a cicular 9bill mile orbit but they say its not
• They dont mention in the article on usatoday is the orbit is theorized to be eliptical
• The theory i heard about a while back was that it was an elipse/oval and that it slingshots around the sun
• They said it comes closer to the sun than the earth when its on that side of its orbit then gets flung back out into space for thousands of years

PS. you should be able to see it next time it comes close to the sun, if it passes on the correct(our) side, and you are still alive (since it can take a couple thousands years before it gets here)

I was at Palomar in December 2003 when I stumbled across one of the most significant astronmers from Australia doing observations. The reason then why I thought it was so interesting was that in April of that year, I was filling in at my University's observatory to complete studies when the Head of Department went to Canberra to where the guy I saw at Palomar is based. At the time the Head of Department said that was he on to something. I took little notice as my field was radio astronomy.
