Tides of War

The following is allegedly the transcript of a radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995, as released by the Chief of Naval Operations:

Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

That was bogus. Charts would have shown the lighthouse. No one is that stupid.

Especially a whole battlegroup.

That brings up a question. What part do the Canadians play in this? Seems they are a part of the glorious Commonwealth? =)

Ummm, sort.

The Commonwealth (as an entity) doesn't exist, but the former Commonwealth countries are generally aligned with the LFN and the RNE, but not all. The USA has some bases in SE Asia (off the top of my head I think it's either Singapore or Malaysia) and thereby guard a significant shipping strait.

Canada itself, per se, has a shipyard in Vancover (refer LFN surface campaign) BUT the USA also has a shipyard somewhere in the Pacafic North West. My guess is Seattle is out and the shipyard is more southerly towards Oregon where the Coast Guard is based. Reasoning for this is that two opposition naval bases across a small stretch of water is not good placement.

There are also LFN bases near Nova Scotia (actual location unknown) but that border dispute is gonna be fun.

If you value your necks you will support The King of England and the free Commenwealth George the VI. the pretender king Edward will lose his when George the VI reterns to England.
