fist of hood was supposed to be replaced in 1941..... the year bismark sunk her..

secondly rodney/nelson was supposed to be a 6 turret monster (three more turrets behind the fortop) this was canned after the washington treaty. hence the individual ship class look..

ur wrong about Nelson/G3 class they where to only have 3x16" all facing forward going whith their name sake they wold not need to use rear turrits as when would a ship be going backwards or heven forbid retreating. that word does not exsist in the RN dictionary.

trust me on this its in janes fighting ships of world war 2.. which uses real documents..

"While this did indeed prove to be true, it also remained a fact that the USA and Japan, less touched by the expense of war than Britain and France, had much catching up to do in terms of ships and equipment, and immediately began laying down large battleships or battlecruisers displacing as much as 43,000 tons and mounting l6in guns. Indeed, Japan commissioned two such ships, Nagato and Mutsu (q.vj, in 1920?1. Faced with this competition the British, who had cancelled the last three of the Hood-class when the war was over but who had great responsibilities in the Far East, had little choice but to follow the USA and Japan. France, economically spent, had neither the finances nor the will to consider naval construction seriously.

Accordingly the Admiralty drew up plans for a class of four battlecruisers carrying nine l6in in three triple turrets, sixteen 6in and six 4.7in HA. They were to displace about 48,000 tons (53,909 tons deep) with l4in belt armour, 7?Sin deck armour, with a speed of 3 1?32 knots. Armour represented about 30.6 per cent of the legend displacement. The only restriction on their size was the need to pass through the Panama and Suez Canals. The unusual feature of this design was the concentration of the main armament forward so as to reduce the length of the requisite armoured citadcl. This of course preventcd astern fire by the main armament, but in British eyes this was acceptable because it was not expected that a ship of the Royal Navy would ever be in the position of the quarry in a chase action. Many different combinations of armament, lSin, 16.Sin and l8in in various arrangements, (known as G3) was arrived at, whose geneml parameters are described above.

Orders were placed for four ships on 21 October 1921. in 1922 sketch designs were also worked on for four battleships, displacing 48,500 tons, armed with nine lBin in three triple turrets, again all forward, and ISin side armour, having a speed of 23.5 knots."

im only stating what i read.. and thanx for the site's u posted.. i make r/c warships and now i have some more designs..cheers

i understand what it meens it badly said if u check out the image of the G3 in the link i posted above its under notstarted heading what it meens is two turrets for of the bridge and one aft but infrount of the funnls so more in the middle of the ship but none facing backwards
