Sinking A Submarine?

Hi. I recently bought thisngame on ebay and I have a problem even in the training mission 1. I have to sink the targets they've put me there, a tanker, a freighter, a submarine and 4 planes. I let the AI shoot down the planes, sink the 2 ships myself.

Then I look for the submarine, find it but I am not able to sink it. I drive over it several times and I let loose my waterbombs in all the 4 different depths but there is never a successful hit or anything else.

I have to try the depths because I don't know how deep the submarine is. But then again, I'm out of waterbombs pretty fast, since it's shooting 10 at once.

Help me. How do I sink a submarine?

Regards

Morpheus

Well........

If the submarine is deep.....you can not just drop the Depth Charges over the submarine.

You have to drive ahead of te submarine then drop the depth charges as it takes time for them to sink and by the time the get to the right depth, they explode over the submarine.

Cheers!

Finding subdepths is a bit difficult. Play some submarine missions and find out how fast they can change depth. When an AI sub fires torpedoes at you it's at periscope depth (which is 9 or 10 meters), but it usually goes deeper after that and reduces speed (you'll eventually lose contact if you stay at flank speed)

It takes some time to attack subs successfully, but once you've got an idea about the sub's diving speed it's getting easier, because you can predict a sub's depth quite good.

There is however an alternative: subs can't stay submerged forever. The men aboard need oxygen and the batteries get drained. If you spent all your depth charges, drive around and wait until the sub has to surface (it still takes some time). Once the sub comes to the surface it can't dive because battery reloading takes some time as well. Your deck guns will quickly solve your sub problem. If you're in the mood for some real damage you can even try to ram the surfaced sub.

btw: The German 'Wasserbomben' are 'depth charges' in English.

Well, I'm german, can't do anything about that :-P

The problem in this mission is, that at one point I get the message that failed due to waisted time.

I know :D Most unfortunately: The German 'Wasserbomben' is ambiguous. On the one hand 'Wasserbomben' are depth charges, devices used to bomb subs out of the water.

On the other hand 'Wasserbomben' are small ballons filled with water. Children throw them at each other in summer. ;)

Sometimes I feel like I'm throwing small balloons filled with water at submarines in the game :D . I freely admit that I'm not very good with my depth charges bluh:

Well, I now tried the very first training mission for a dozen times, I always get the timeout since I'm not able to hit the submarine and it never comes back up again.

On the other hand, right after the mission start I can see it go down, when I turn west and use my binoculars

Try a half-pattern at 85 +10, then another half pattern at 175m +0, it's a good pattern.

Due to the time limit, I found it best to go after the sub first. Use the main gun until it dives and then depth charges. You'll probably be doing a lot of turning so keep the AI firing at the surface ships in the distance.

If you leave the sub till last then it'll probably get some torps off at you when you're not looking. :)
