Am I Missing Somthing With This Game?

Hi all,
I have been trying to play rising tide for the last day, with no success. Oh the game runs perfectly, patches work. All the controll work but I CANT PLAY IT!
Having played a few sub sims before (silent service two,Aces of the deep) im not a new comer to the style, but I am really strugling with this game.
What has happened to the manual? It's 35 pages long and only scratches the surface on how to play the game. Ive fired maybe 50 torpedo's at ships and the only ones that have hit are jags,im sure. The manual doesn't explain the torpedo system at all. I have figured out (I think) that you can make your torp swim quicker at the expence of distance travelled at the torpedo controll centre, the one where you can set the gyro's on the torpedos.Where is this covered in the book? When you aim at a target a series of letters appear under the targeted ship,I figure it designatesthe ship (OIL for oiler for eg). Where is this explained in the book? What does it even mean? Does it mean the that if I put the cross hairs in the middle of the target and fire off a torp it will hit?
90 degrees on to a target 1km in front should be an easy shot, but it's not! I understand the quicker a ship is going the more lead you must pull on it,I also understand angles will vary this as well. Where in the book is this explained?
If I fire at the centre of the target and then fire a second torpedo at the bow of the target do they both track to the same spot(the middle of the target) or do I Have to set the gyro's of the individual tube to fire 5 or 10 or 13 degrees port or starboard? These features are in the game, great but should they not be explained in a little more detail? 80 bucks for a game,I feel I deserve a little more from the trusty manual. Also the manual states that asdic "operates in a 12 degree cone eminating from the bow" it goes on to state that coveres 12 degrees depth,24 degrees width out to 4000 meters, how is it then that If I am 150 meters directly below a ship,it can ping me? Or is it not and I am only hearing the ping but they are not getting an echo from my sub? The enemy ships seem to have a uncanny knock for guessing my depth for depth charging me,even when I have been down for quite a while and frequently changed my depth. I feel I can't sneek away even by going deep and running on 1/3 power or knuckling in the water or trying to hide under a layer of colder water. TToo much about this game is not explained,I have downloaded Donoby's Torpedo Chart still to no avail. Lets say my target is doing 6 knots at 90 degrees,I have to lead my target by 8.5 degrees,do I set my torpedo's gyro to 9 degrees or do I manually lead my target by 8.5 degrees? How can I work out what 8.5 degrees lead is? How for in fron of a ship is that? one length, half a length? How far out can you reliably hit a ship that is not taking evesive action? I have read in posts that merchant ship don't take evasive action in this game,so nailing one from 3000 meters should be fine right?
Sorry for bitchin but I'm a little frustrated with it. Maybe I should stick to my first person shooters and leave to sim section alone!
Cheers
