Some More Ship Proposals...

I happened to notice that there are no American Battleships, and while some have been mentioned before, such as the ones everyone knows like the North Carolina Class (BB-55, BB-56, c. 1937) and the Iowa Class (BB-60 to BB-67, c. 1941), how about another proposal.

Since Enigma is based off the fact that the Germans won WWI, and the Naval Restriction Treaty never came to pass, could we perhaps see the Lexington Class BC/BB for the Americans? Some of you might know this ship since it was converted into a carrier, the Lexington and the Saratoga. I prefer it however as it's original intention, as a BC/BB, that was scrapped due to the Naval Limitations Treaty.

Info on it can be found here.

Or if not the Lexington, perhaps the Alaska Class... thing is, that class didn't come out till late in the war. However, it was proposed in '38, as an intermediate inbetween Heavy Cruisers and Battleships, so maybe...

Anyhow, just thought I'd throw it up for discussion, at least. Add a few more ships that don't look like the Hood to the mix. ;)

Yes, they need the Iowa. Maybe in later war scenarioes they can have gunnery radar too for more accurate shots and longer-range sensors.

A Tribal-class DD would be nice.

They need more big ships in the game. In real life, the oceans were not ruled by destroyers and submarines. They were ruled by battleship.

I don't agree. While battleships and carriers surely were the largest and most impressive ships and also had tremendous firepower the bulk of all fleets were destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines and other small units. Capital ships were usually counted in single units while the smaller ships were counted in dozens or hundreds.

Even the Royal Navy hadn't had enough battleships to cover the atlantic ocean. This job was done by destroyers, cruisers, escorts of all sorts and later auxillary carriers and long range aircraft.

Smaller ships are much easier to produce, they don't require huge shipyards, they cost far less money and are usually completed in far less time than capital ships.

it seems like the only way the story could continue is if it became a flight sim, as it was suggested most or all of the powers junked their battleships and converted them to battlecarriers.

That's a potential down the works ;)

Battleships and battlecruisers were the bulk firepower of all fleets. Thier only purpose is to sink enemy ships. And in the game, there are only TWO OR THREE missions with these crucial ships in them!

The truth is, an average battleship or battlecruiser massively outlcasses any destroyer. One could easily take on ten of them in a single battle, unless the destroyer's torpedo fire was especially accurate. What happened to the battleships in this game? They were in almost every surface naval battle in both World Wars, and now they've dissapeared!
