except for slugging against surface ships and for air defense, the battlecruisers and battleships are completely useless. it can't even depth-charge or torpedo anything. crybaby:

submarines, especially on mission 10-11 on any sides is like a turkey-shoot. the only downside is the short battery life. :(

when will we get the Gato-class submarines?! enigma!:

rolleyes: sleepy: hehe:

uh, thats what they are for, they destroy other surface vessels and fight off aircraft... Destroyers hunt subs, thus they have DC and Torps...

tell ya what, surface near a battlecruiser and see what happens  BOOM! :D

Every ship in a navy, based on class, has a purpose.

BCs and BBs purpose is to fight other BC's and BB's, the light ships escort the larger ones and deal with enemy subs

subs attack enemy merchants, cargo vessels and their escorts. and anything else they can sink before getting sunk...

short battery life, yea well its 1937. they're just torpedo boats that can run underwater for a few hours. or minutes in term of ERT

Gato class, i dunno, when did they enter service?

Gato class entered service in 1941.

And in E:RT submarines are considerably more powerful than they were in reality.

Enigma is only in 1937 at the moment (current version).

The strength of the current subs are due to the game balance (ships vs subs)

How are they more powerful? In fact, they're much weaker- in real life it dosent sink 25 torps to sink a battleship!

They are far more resistant to shelling than in reality. A hit by a 4", 3" or even by AA fire would have seriously penetrated the diving cells necessary for diving. In E:RT you can run towards the enemy and even survive a couple of 5" hits.

Submarines also were no match for aircraft. No submarine commander would have seriously tried to shoot down an attacking aircraft - far to dangerous. Even the German Anti Air submarines that were constructed during WWII to protect U-Boats while traveling through the Bay of Biscay were a failure and rebuilt into regular Type IX. In E:RT you usually laugh about aircraft as a sub commander unless they come in swarms after you.

Nevertheless I agree with you. BCs are quite tough.
