Fire Control Tower Improvement

While watching the PBS documentary on the Hood-Bismarck battle, they explained how a fire control tower and rangefinder worked aiming the main bat'ry cannons.
So, given that the current method of simply estimating elevation with the FiCon Tower is bleh, would it/could it be possible to make some reproduction of the "fit together the telescope images" system?
The alternative idea is to at least implement a point-to-target system whereby the guns are automatically elevated for the range of whatever the crosshair is over. Heavy Gear 2 had such a system for how one aimed mortar fire, if you want an example.
Because fire-control view is just too neat to have left in it's current state, where you must guess how high to aim and then your entire volley will either hit or miss depending mostly on luck.
