I have completed all sub missions of all factions. But made little progress in surface battle against the subs. I would like to know if anyone could finish all the surface missions. It seems to me impossible to break through a few bottle necks.

Many have . I have done them .all a few times .

Only the final german surface .. I think I did , but deleted . and trying again now.

I wonder if most think the sub or surface are harder ?

I think Surface are harder. Probably because it's easier to sink something you can see, making it easier to estimate speed and direction (often on Surface, a Submarine opponent is involved).

Also, there are more options available to avoid being hit when you are under water...you have 3 dimensions plus speed versus 2 dimensions plus speed.

The trick to living in surface missions is to stay the hell away. Launch a spread of torps from range and then run paralell firing broadsides. Sometimes you even have to veer away to put more range between you and your opponent to improve you lethality.

Very different, almost napoleonic. In no way similar to submarines, which are reminiscent of a SF space-dogfighters' torpedo-bomber. Line up on the target, wait, fire, peel away.

I have no problem killing the topedo boats. You just have to be busy constantly assigning your deck guns to different targets. Position your ship among the torp boats, make full use of all your guns all the time, including the AA guns. I never failed killing those bugs.....

But the multiple subs battle is a brutal pain in the arss.....

The German Surface campaign was the first I completed, I thought it was relatively easy except for some frustration dodging torps from the PTs on the first DE mission, and then chasing down the little buggers to kill them off and finish the mission. Even though I think IGN Surface is the easiest campaign, I'd have to counter myself by also saying that I think the LFN Surface campaign is by far the hardest.
