Okay the game loads and runs perfectly except for the speech. I am sure you have heard this umteen thousand times.

Now to my dilema. Yes I have the speech program loaded in its default location.

I have run the training sessions all of them. I have uninstalled SAPI and reinstalled SAPi several times and after each time I have ran all the speech training sessions.

I noticed that several people who were having similar problems were posting what they their PC consisted of.

I know that I am using a Win98 OS. However, figuring out how to locate the speech trainer was a major milestone for me. Could you tell me how I can determine what my PC consists of.

P.S. I read in the readme file that some Win98 systems have trouble loading SAPI and have installed the program as directed and then installed SAPI without any difficulty.

Also I have the U.S. Retail version bought it at Walmart and have not downloaded any patches.

Any advice would be great. I have played as many surface and sub missions as I could before it got to difficult to do without the added ability of voice command. I read something about a PT mission that is according to some posters impossible without using Voice Commands. So as you can see I am in somewhat of a predicament.

Sorry if this seems trivial to those of you who have solved this problem for others numerous times, however I followe Jester's advice and every bit of advice that I could locate on this forum in relation to my problem, alas to no avail.

Try this:

Go to your control panel abd open the speech applet then click on input device, change it to use your soundcard's wave device. click ok all the way back, close control panel, start enigma, click preferences, click mike on click test, say "it's a different world" (if the mike is allready set on, then set if off then back on).

Well I tried what you said and well although I get the continually get the message "mic init failed" on the preferences page I tried to see what would happen in the game if I issued voice commands. Well walla it works. Not sure how this is possible when the "mic init failed" but nevertheless it works. Not sure how but at this point I don't care. Thanks for the help.
