I just love this mission...So hard and so fun...and your so pround when you manage to finish it. True I admit it's hard, there should be a "easy" button for this one.

I completed the mission by focusing on the first sub to your right(starboard) then I make a hard left (port) and take out the two that are in line. I then turn to the right(starboard) and the last one is just starting to go down when I hit him with a torp. After which I send the DE to attack the 2 enemy DE's and together we sink both of them.

Yay

:D:D:P Done it at last after 15 tries. I kinda got used to doing it without voice control and then it became a determined challenge to complete it without voice control. I could always put two or three subs down, but missed the fourth which dived. I decided that instead of wasting torps on the dived subs I would advance on a submerged sub quickly then throttle back just as I approached its location - lined up the bow of the MTB so I would be facing the flank of the sub when it rose and turned the engines off when I was within 10-20 feet of the sub. It then became a waiting game to see if the sub would rise. Within 3 - 5 mins they usually rise with the periscope first then a cautious slow rise to the surface. When the periscope rises I turn the rudder to get a perfect line (with the engine off or the sub will hear the engines and dive) then wait till the sub is at the maximum surfacing position and fire with the torp set at 2m depth.
On the winning try I did this twice on the last two subs and with only one torp left for each sub. The excitement and fear was tangible on the very last sub as I had a destroyer closing fast putting down shells all round me. I thought the sub would never surface and then up popped the periscope - I checked my alignment with the rudder, the sub surfaces smack in front of the bow on perfect alignment. With destroyer shells landing close by I fire - Its a hit!! I throttle up and get the hell outta there. Got a nice shiny medal too !

I'm not very good at this game but once I got the hang of the torpedo boat it was quite easy. You probably will have to play it several times because it's got randomised elements in, and I spent a lot of my 15+ attempts crashing into the subs.
The main tip I have for you is this: know the firing angle of the torpedos and point your boat accordingly. My guess is that they fire approximately 10 degrees away from the bow and maintain that heading, and so with a bit of luck you can estimate where you should be pointing your boat. Why not set a waypoint just to the relevant side of the target? You can watch where the torpedoes go in the external view to get a good idea but you do not need this to complete the mission.
I didn't use voice control either but I am playing on 'Easy'. As for the other boats, they do hit their targets occasionally but don't waste time giving them orders.
Finally a tip might be to head NW or E at the start to catch the targets over there; trying to go for the one in front of you straight away is a bad plan, because you don't know where it will pop up and have to slow down to aim for it. Remember that the friendly boats are closer to that too so if they're going to sink anything it'll probably be that.
Hope that helps and good luck! It's worth doing.

After spending 3 months on mission one i finally completed that today, then i managed to get all the way to this and STOP.
Couldn't get more than 3 before they dived...then magically on one attempt i got three, ran away and from afar watched as the other mtbs launched a suicide attack with the Deatroyes shelling them, one after the other they both got sunk but just after the second got sunk....the message came up "Well done etc" So a big slice of luck, don't know how it happended

I solved this mission this way:
ignore the first sub, go directly to the second one
torpedo the second one (distance depends on your skill)
go to the third one
torpedo the third one
turn around and fire a quick torpedo at the first one, which should still be surfaced
run to the last one and torpedo it from whatever distance you like
don't forget to set your torpedo speeds to max and the depth to 0
do all the running at flank speed, this will buy you enough time to get really close to all subs except the first one (I fired my torpedos at 2, 3 and 4 so close that they didn't hit the water but hit the sub on thier flight out of the tube)

you're lucking there isn't any spash damage on torps because otherwise you woudn't finish the mission alive!
