Can't see a why people get frustrated, at least you are shoved right in at the action part.
Try playing SH2 in real time. Ah the hours spent on deck at night!
What is a major bummer is when you loose yer harddrive as I did over the last few months. crybaby:
It's good fun coming back up through the missions, must remember to take headphones and mic of before grabbing a beer tho! crazy:

You're right Cap'. I mean, who in their right mind sends Motor Torpedo Boats to attack Milchcows? Now if they had a corvette in support, that would be different.

Interesting thread.
I am also finding the campaign absurdly difficult and whilst I am making some progress, its really more through luck than judgement.
Sub sims are one of my favourite themes. Potentially they reward stealth, patience and a chance to pit your wits in a non arcade way.
Somehow though, these elements are not coming through for me.
Perhaps I have misunderstood the game mechanics, but usually in a campaign there is some learning or experience which you carry forward from mission to mission. You gain skill and feel you are making progress but here, I find the game play seems to prevent that.
As a result, I feel I am winning through pure chance and thus am no better than when I started.
The execution of the game is very good, nice graphics, excellent sounds, interesting scenarios and an intriguing storyline. This is a well thought out game. It deserves success but this simply makes my disappointment in the even greater as the gameplay seems so awfully difficult.
My thought is that there are so many variables introduced in the game that its making it too unforgiving and too hard to find winning tactics.
For incompetent players like myself, the solution would be to have some assistance with some optional "overlays". For example; time to target or the ability to track torpedoes on the tactical display. Nothing revolutionary. but enough to make me feel the game is worth getting into.
I read a post here that sub sims are a niche market, sadly thats true. This game has the potential to step out of that. Perhaps a sub sim which can deliver a sense of realism without allowing itself to be too wound up with historic accuracy could be a way forward?
Anyways, happy gaming to you all!
Best regards.

Let me be honest. I think right now most missions can only be finished by sheer luck and endless repetition. It's quite obvious that this will drive away many casual and hardcore gamers alike.
Perhaps its your skills deciding your fate rather than "sheer luck and repitition". Ive beat the first 4 USN missions without being sunken once.
(Havnt attempted 5th just yet)
