Include human figures. It's very creepy and stupid to be sitting in your sub all alone. They wouldn't lag unless you had a VERY slow PC, and as long as they don't get killed the rating won't get hurt.
enigma!:
edit: Good idea Odog, that would be a first-of-its-kind innovation for the game.

To be honest,
I would rather there were audio responses rather then graphics of people, i am more interested in searching out the enemy to worry about what people are doing on board my ship.

I agree. Before anything else there has tobe some kind of voice feedback in the game. Like: "Torpedo runnig aft" and the stuff. Best said in the german and english for the different factions.
I, as a guy from berlin, would even help you get the right ones for the germans
Oh, and please remember us and bring out the GERMAN PATCH....

But, wouldn't that be a regional dialect of German? For instance, Berliners say Sonnabend for Saturday, whereas Bavarians say Samstag.

Since I am from West-Berlin I have no real regional accent. In our school system (different from the one in eastern germany) it was strictly forbidden to use "berlinerisch", which is no real dialect (more of a city slang).
We all had to talk "hochdeutsch" (the official version of german).

Enigma has got two available voice packs that add responses to your game. (I am currently working on a third, English, one. )
Easy enough to install. If you are really stuck post here and I'll help

1st of all: I still believe that those dummies would only block the view - think about it. Next you would need some collision system to ensure that gun barrels do not go through crewmen models.
2ndly: Don't you think that having a crew that does not get killed or hurt when your ship is hit with heavy guns is much more stupid than playing without them? hmmm:

As far as I know voice packs aren't supported by the retail versions - and the German version hasn't been patched yet.
(Yes, East, I know you guys are working on it, I'm sure you do your very best

They wouldn't block the view when your'e inside a sub, and wouldn't make a whole lot of difference on surface either.
The only reason I don't want them to be shown getting killed is because the game designers want to keep this game rated E.

That plus we don't want them distracted by doing crew graphics instead of concentrating on multiplayer
