Baron - I didn't think you could control the ship from the spectator view! At ;east that's what I thought the manual said. I had previously tried using the keyboard arrow keys, but they didn't work and i have to admit i didn't think of using the S, D and F keys. I'll give it a try tonight.

Voice control - I haven't used it yet. My headset microphone doesn't seem to work, even though I've followed the hints around the forum about setting up the voice control. Clixck on the test microphone button and it times out, even though I have done the stuff in control panel to set up the device.

I guess I also feel a bit weird talking to the PC, but maybe voice might give me quicker control (at the moment lots of clicking between radar, DC settings and B-Tac slows me down a bit). I will have another shot at getting the mic to work (haven't really tried after patching).

Oh smithcorp you are missing out on that .

You must get your mic / speakers , working , or a new headset !

Meanwhile , the manual should tell you about the keys .

SDF and TGB especially . plus W & R to pivot etc .

It might take a few attempts to test the microphone. Don't give up.

Try again,, or get a new headset rightwaway !

As you see , from some postings here , some of us are talking like that even in our sleep ! Read manual and learn all the commands , it's fun .and a lot easier .

Ha-ha Baron! I got my microphone working and its fabulous fun! Took a of voice training and trial and error, but it works great, leaving your mouse-hand free to drive B-Tac and set depth charges etc.

Thanks for encouraging me to get off my arse and get it working!

Now, if i can get my wife to stop giggling at me when I'm saying "hard to starb'd! Hold course!" :)

On second thought, maybe not. Image

Use the mic for DC setting etc.

Press F3 in game for the voice orders. You can set depth, order Roll Charges, and stop dropping by ordering a new Set Charge Depth while they're still rolling.

The mic is the only thing I use, apart from the "p" (pause), sometimes the "a,s,d" keys, and the Print screen (I use GCS for screenshots). Of course, I also use the mouse.

I'd have to "run silent, run deep" after that!

Ah, i was going to ask if there were any undocumented voice commands in the game - the manual only covers some of them i guess - thanks for the tip!

Maybe a few other commands .. You might find them somewhere here .

Set course zero two five ( example ) I think it varies now , according to which patch and version !

Set depth zero one zero ...etc

I also like the way in Enigma the sound is really directional.. if you move around your vessel ,in spectator , you can listen to where other vessels are , or torpedoes aproaching from etc . Have you got a mic or headset yet ?

Corvettes dodge torpedos fairly well no matter what, but for larger ships you want to practice dodges.

With a Lohengrin/Raiko, you can usually make a forty-five degree turn and then go flank to dodge, but for close-in spreads and larger ships like the Barbarossa and Alliance, you want to practice sidesliding.

You do the forty-five turn at flank, then put your rudder hard over the other way. It sort-of strafes your ship to one side, hopefully meaning the torp misses.

Using those two tactics well is ridiculously effective. I've taken three hits ever in a Lohengrin, simply because of the agility with which it can do the slide-dodge.
