The manual is definitely sparse, mostly intended as a quick start. None of the publishers was willing to spend money on a traditional manual.
The game is supposed to be hard, but every scenario is winnable. If you know the NAME of your ship we can figure it out and send you to the walk through for your mission.
Generally in a sub, the faster you go, the louder you are. When the scenario starts, you've already been spotted so you have to quickly and quietly get out of the position you start in. Then you need to find the Minehaha, sneak into a position and then sink it. Forget the rest of the ships if you can.

USS LOINFISH .. im thinking thats the name of my ship??
i did get the minehaha in my tacital periscope ,, JUST ONCE . but i ran out of battery power .. ive tryed staying on the surface , to let the battery recharge some , but in the matter of seconds , im hit .. its like this ,, if it took me half the nite , to even get a shot a minehaha , that would be fine by me .. but when i gets even close , MINEHAHA goes of my radar ,,im getting showed with depth charges and torpedoes ,, and runs out of power ,that would frustrate the best of skippers .. wouldnt you agree?? as i said ,, its a great game ,, and you have to have patience ,, its all part of the game , im sure .. so , hopefully ,, my patience will pay off .. i dont give up that easy .. ha ha .. and i want you to understand , i dont want the KEY , to the mission ,, i just wanted an idea , on what i was doing wrong .. after re reading my post , i do know i was kinda STRONG .. and i sincerly do appoligse.. when i purchased the game ,, i didnt think it would be so complated .. im use to the SHOOT EM UP kinda games .. thats all . ha ha . again ill say ,, the game is fun ,, with the microphone , im IN CHARGE ,, for sure .. god help those poor sailors .. ha ha . you have a fantastic evening there east .. no hard feelings on the STRONG points,, cheers ,, and thanks for replying ..

Ok if I remembers this mission correctly
This scenario starts with you facing 2 semi distant corvettes and the oiler is far away out on the horizon right ?
You probably noticed that the oiler is fleeing and the 2 Corvettes aint moving till you make a move, BIG MISTAKE.
What I did was aim and shoot 2 torps dead on one of the CV's then flank speed and turn to face the other CV, and sink it, there is a chance that the other CV will circle around you, if thats the case, dont bother chasing it, once its behind you you can sink it. if oyu manages to sink it then surface and while still flank hunt the oiler,
[HINT] when surfacing or preparing to dive click on the hatch icon to stop the timer at 0 so you can dive within 0 sec, only disadvantage is that your guns dont work at this point.[/HINT]
While trying to catch the oiler fire spreads of torps in its direction, a lucky fish can sink it.
If you dont manage to sink both CV's then just stay submerged and fire spreads in the direction of the oiler.
This mission isnt really hard, but it requires a good portion of luck, just wait till you play the German #4

that is probably the one that most skippers gets frustrated over.
Other hints:
In ERT as a sub it is most often best to use flank speeds.
Always do as the orders say
Dont use the pivot commands unless you are already at slow speeds, it simply takes too long to slow down before the turn starts
hunt on the surface if no warships are in your vicinity, use the tip from above with the hatch, but watch out for planes as your guns are disabled
Other info:
CV = Corvette | 2 torpedoes needed to sink
DE = Destryer Escort | 3 torpedoes needed to sink
DD = Destroyer | 4 torpedoes needed to sink
BB = Battleship | more than 20 torpedoes needed to sink
U = Submarime | 1 torpedo needed to sink
T = Tanker | 1 torpedoes needed to sink
M = Merchant | 1 torpedoes needed to sink
OL = Olier | 1 torpedoes needed to sink
MTB/E-Boat = Motor Torpedo Boat | easist to sink with the guns instead of torpedoes
B = Bomber/Fighter Bomber (Plane)
F = Fighter (Plane)

thanks jesper .. the hatch thing works fine .. i dives much faster .. theres rough seas .. bomber planes , those 2 corvettes ,, then along comes ,destroyers and escorts ,,minnehaha is on the radar screen at first ,, then dissapears .. .. if i can get past the corvettes ,, get em behind me like , i can keep them at bay with stern shots .. the escorts and destoryers ,, come outta nowhere .. anyways ,, i must have got close the last time i played ,, i had minnehaha on the big tack .. i did manage to get 4 torps fired , before i got hit .. going at FLANK , kinda uses the battery fast .. im sure , with a little patience , and alot of LUCK ,, i will preveal .. ill keep it cool . apparently ,, theres HARDER campaigns to follow .. ha ha .. i dont think ill finish this game ,, no time soon .. ha ha .. again , thanks for the reply and help .

Right you shouldnt just have the CV's behind you, keeping them busy evading your fishes, you need to sink them if you want to catch up the oiler unless you just gets it with a long shot
